German Dunkel Love

German Dunkel Love

This Bavarian Style Dunkel Lager is available year-round in 500 ml. bottles.

Brewer’s Description: “Dark chocolate in color, you can see a wonderful reflection if you hold it up to the light. It is round and soft with the warm, sweet aroma of freshly roasted malted barley. A satisfying, malty taste, with coffee-ish tones and a hint of plummy fruitiness in the finish. Complex and beautifully balanced.”

My Description: This beer is very clean and smooth with well balanced flavors and the quality of the ingredients shine through. However, I just felt that is was too thinned down, which in turn did not give me the satisfaction I was hoping for. It starts with a decent sized, light beige colored head that fades rather quickly and leaves a minimal amount of lacing behind. There is a strong malt aroma that is accompanied by minor hints of dark fruit and caramel. It is light/medium bodied with a moderate carbonation level and a dry finish. The flavor profile is definitely dominated by a sweet malt taste that is present throughout. Other flavors include some toasted bread notes and hints of dark fruit. The aftertaste is minimally bitter and overall this beer is more on the sweeter side. It is best served around 45°F and pairs nicely with grilled Bratwurst, beef stew, or fried whitefish.

Refreshing Citrus Notes

Refreshing Citrus Notes

This Hefeweizen is available year-round in 11.2 oz. bottles.

Brewer’s Description: “Delicious lemon and vanilla scented wheat beer with yeast. This is an aristocratic beer with a champagne sparkle and a beautifully sustained head. With the pale color of mountain honey and tart refreshing palate, it is a “brut” beer with the delicious, complex fruitiness of extra-dry champagne. Bottle conditioned and top fermented, it is a benchmark for this style of beer. The nose is fruity-spicy, herbaceous with lots of flowers, and fruit.”

My Description: Ayinger delivers a refreshing and tasty Hefeweizen that is perfect for any occasion, especially those hot summer nights. It has a decent, white colored head that lasts for a long time and leaves behind a good amount of lacing. The nose on this beer is fantastic and pleasing. There are notes of lemon, bubblegum, wheat malt, and clove. It is light/medium bodied with a slightly higher carbonation level and a dry finish. This Hefe is very smooth with a semi-creamy texture and a clean flavor profile. Upfront, there are notes of clove spice accompanied by wheat malt, lemon and other light fruits, and a floral-like flavor that satisfies. The aftertaste is minimally bitter with a faint banana note. This beer is made with great care and quality and is definitely a must try. It is best served around 45°F and pairs nicely with grilled shrimp, salads, or sushi.

CELEBRATOR: 100 Points

Who needs a woman?

This Doppelbock is available year-round in the U.S. in 12 oz. bottles.

Brewer’s Description:  “Celebrator has a creamy head of tight bubbles contrasting beautifully with its profound dark robe. It is full-bodied and velvety from half a year’s aging. Although it is strong, it is not overpowering. There is a wonderful and complex balance between the various malts, the alcohol and the subtle hops. A complex fruitiness of roasted malt and whole hop flowers make Celebrator great as a party drink with friends and family at celebrations. Despite its richness, it has a faintly smoky dryness in the finish.”

My Description: If you think that this beer is just okay then you probably don’t care much for Bocks, what a shame. This is one of the best beers on the market and you need to start training your palate for the finer beverages in life. It has a nice sized, beige colored head with great retention and really good lacing. The aroma is splendid and warming with fragrant notes of toasted caramel malt, bread, molasses, and a touch of dark fruit. It is more on the full bodied side with a modest carbonation presence and a slick texture. The flavors work together in splendid harmony. Up front you will taste bread notes accompanied by some dark fruits like raisins and figs which lead into an amazing aftertaste that is creamy and slightly bitter with a lingering sweetness that satisfies. The alcohol is slightly felt and well hidden. The beer has a great mouth-feel and perfect for any occasion. This lager is best served around 42°F and pairs nicely with grilled sausage, NY strip, or a chocolate dessert.

This Märzen is released seasonally during Oktoberfest in 500 ml. bottles.

Brewer’s Description: “Ayinger Oktober Fest Märzen has a deep golden color tinted with amber. It is lightly sweet with a malty nose balanced with floral hops. Its medium to big body and alcohol is not overpowering. The soft dryness comes from long maturation.”

This lager has a large and off-white colored head that lasts for a long time and leaves behind a good amount of lacing. The aroma is inviting and clean with obvious malt notes and hints of bread and noble hops. It is medium bodied with a moderate carbonation level and a dry finish. German Dunkel

German Dunkel

This Dunkelweizen is available year-round in 500 ml. bottles.

Brewer’s Description: “Our Ayinger Ur-Weisse is an old-fashioned wheat with some fine roasted malt to give it more color and flavor than golden hefe- weisse. It has an immense crown of lovely foam held proudly above a robe of translucent amber. On the palate, malt and yeast predominate, with a delicious balance of fruit and bread-like yeast. The taste is complex, with suggestions of soft fruit, apple, and, in the finish, perhaps, even cloves.”
